Goals and implementation
At a structural level, we support the efforts of our partners to shape and change educational research, teacher training and professional development as well as curricula and school development from and for the local social contexts in relevant and effective ways. Together, we are committed to improving access to high-quality education - including local forms of knowledge and languages - and increasing equal opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
At an institutional level, we strive to professionalise and internationalise all participating Schools of Education, to further develop study programmes and further professional development opportunities in line with local and global requirements and to increase the number of relevant research publications.
In terms of cooperation activities, our focus is on
the joint development and implementation of qualifying competence development programmes
e.g. for Master's and doctoral students, teachers, academic supervisors, researchers and education managers / university management (online and in person);
the awarding of scholarships and the training of future decision-makers
in the 'East and South African-German Centre of Excellence for Educational Research Methodologies and Management (CERM-ESA) for the jointly developed Master's and doctoral degree programmes at Moi University
joint research projects and publications
the co-supervision of Master's and PhD theses, exchange & research stays at the partner institutions, and the joint conception and organisation of international conferences and research schools
the further development and application of context-adapted educational research methods linked to local knowledge systems
with a focus on methods for social change, social justice and socio-ecological sustainability
evidence-based further education and training of teachers and school management
which are based on our research findings and needs analyses and provide teachers with a space for exchange, familiarisation and testing of new teaching methods, content and access to resources
the establishment and maintenance of an alumni network in South and East Africa
Our graduates work as teachers, school principals, university lecturers, or in policy advice, ministries and governmental and non-governmental institutions; they help to implement our joint transdisciplinary and applied measures that play an important role in the field of engagement and enhance the impact of our activities.
