Professional practice seminar
The professional practice seminars at the Institute of Mathematics offer a unique insight into various professional fields and companies. In these seminars, not only companies and their representatives are presented, but also the specific activities of the departments in which the lecturers work. The focus is on specific current problems and the maths and soft skills required.
The events offer an opportunity to explore various academic appointments in terms of internship, working student and job opportunities. In addition to the presentation of companies, particular attention is paid to how the maths degree is used in professional life, whether a Master's degree is necessary and what role a doctorate plays.
The seminars also shed light on the role that maths plays in day-to-day work and the need for additional skills alongside mathematical knowledge. Topics such as English language skills, presentation techniques and communication skills are covered to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the demands of professional life. At the end of each seminar there is an informative block on the particular company as an employer, including the recruitment and hiring process.
