Counselling
Counselling

During individual counselling, we work together in a confidential atmosphere to find solutions to your concerns about academic working, writing and learning.
In doing so, we are guided by the University of Oldenburg’s overarching approach to counselling.
Writing advice
Lots of ideas, but no plan? In our one-to-one writing consultancy sessions, we’ll look at your writing process together and consider what your next steps might be. From your first seminar paper right through to your dissertation.
We offer advice in both German and English on methods and techniques for academic writing and research. On request, you can receive impartial feedback on your text.
Important: We do not provide advice on content. Writing consultancy therefore does not replace the subject-specific supervision provided by your lecturer.
Possible topics:
- Exchange: sharing, organising and developing ideas
- Planning a writing project: topic, research question, outline, etc.
- Methods and techniques for planning, writing and revising
- Structure & central theme
- ‘Writer’s block’
- Text feedback
- And much more
Can’t quite put your idea into words yet? Let’s work out together how we can best support you.
Learning coaching
Want to finally learn successfully? In learning coaching, the focus is on your learning process. Depending on your needs, we’ll spend 1–5 sessions exploring your individual resources and potential solutions.
Important: Learning coaching does not focus on subject-specific content, but on productive, self-directed learning management.
Possible areas of focus:
- Boosting motivation and self-efficacy, building self-confidence and self-belief
- Identifying and resolving learning barriers, overcoming procrastination
- Processing experiences of success and failure; managing exam stress
- Identifying strengths and challenges, developing suitable learning strategies
- Time and self-management
Learning coaching is not a substitute for psychological counselling. If you have any problems or questions relating to mental health, the staff at the Psychological Counselling Service are happy to help.
Are you unsure whether learning coaching is right for you? Arrange a no-obligation initial consultation.
Check-in
Is your writing actually going quite well, but you feel you could do with a bit more structure? We’re available to act as your sparring partners in 15-minute check-ins over a maximum of five sessions: together, we’ll review your schedule and progress, set and review goals, or answer any quick questions you may have about the writing process.
