as soon as possible.

As part of the implementation of inclusive education, the state of Lower Saxony is providing extensive funding for qualifying teaching practitioners and expanding teaching and research opportunities in inclusive and special needs education. The Department of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation is being gradually expanded and additional professorships in special needs education are being created. The new professors will have the opportunity to actively participate in and co-shape a dynamic development process in an appealing research and teaching environment. For this role in research and teaching, the University seeks a highly accomplished scholar with excellent teaching and social skills.

It is anticipated that the professorship will further develop the profile of the School (“Participation and education”) and of the Department (“Participation and dropping out in education and rehabilitation”) with its own empirical contributions. The appointee will also support research initiatives in the educational sciences and subject didactics network, especially within the framework supplied by the Centre for Teacher Education – Didactic Centre (DiZ).

It is expected that the appointee will have a strong teaching and research background in the field of school-work transitions in inclusive education systems and in at least one of the additional focus areas below:

  • Reintegration into the workplace and lifelong learning in connection with disability
  • Autonomy and personal budgets
  • Participation in the process of vocational qualification.

Relevant national and international publications and experience with applying for third-party funding for projects are required for the position.

Contributing to interdisciplinary cooperation and/or consortium projects is desired. Relevant experience in research and teaching and practical experience with special needs support in school and/or non-school contexts are required.

As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Prerequisites for employment are specified in § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). Applicants must have completed a university degree in special needs education or an equivalent qualification. Applicants shall demonstrate their ability to connect to the described focus areas in research and teaching in a concept of max. 2 pages each.

Professorships with a functional description involving duties in education science or didactics can only be filled with candidates who can additionally provide evidence of at least three years of practical experienceat a school or suitable pedagogical experience, or appropriate empirical research experience corresponding to these duties.

The University aims to increase its proportion of women in science. Equally qualified women will be considered preferentially. In case of equal aptitude, applicants with disabilities will be given priority in hiring decisions. The position is suitable for part-time employment.
