China is playing an increasingly important role in the international economy and politics. With the rising importance of German-Chinese economic relations, there is growing demand for highly-qualified persons who not only have specialist skills but are also familiar with the Chinese language and culture and can take on the role of mediator in German-Chinese collaborative projects.

The certificate programme offers students two different options for acquiring China competence as an additional qualification in or alongside their main field of study. Students who successfully complete the programme will receive a certificate from the University of Oldenburg. The target group of the certificate programme are students on the Master’s degree programme “Business Administration: Management and Law” at the University of Oldenburg.

Content

The Oldenburg part of the certificate programme consists of four modules each worth 6 credit points (CP, ECTS credits).

In the “minor version” of the programme, the number of credits required to obtain the certificate is at least 12 CP and at most 24 CP.  Students on the certificate programme decide themselves which courses to take as required.  At least one Chinese language course must be selected.

The “major version” of the certificate programme is open to students with a specialisation in “Accounting, Finance and Taxation” or “Management”. They can have modules worth 18 or more credit points that were completed at a Chinese partner university recognised as part of their specialisation. In the major version of the certificate, students are required to spend time abroad at a Chinese partner university.  In the major version, the certificate testifies to an achievement of at least 30 credit points in China competence.

The “Economy and Culture in China” module consists of two colloquia. Participation in one of the colloquia may be replaced by participation in a short programme** offered by a Chinese partner university. The credit points for the module must then be achieved at the University of Oldenburg, by an exam, essay or presentation in the other colloquium.
