Academics and Teaching
Academics and teaching at the Carl von Ossietzky University have changed considerably since the introduction of modularised courses of study in the new bachelor's and master's programmes.
-
For Students-These courses are shorter in duration and place higher demands on the students not only in content but in the organisation of each individual's studies.
-
For Faculty-It is necessary for instructors and tutors to coordinate their modules exactly with one another whenever possible, to constantly assess the quality of modules, and when necessary, to further develop the courses offered.
-
For Administrative and Support Staff-Staff in the central student services (Central Student Advisory Service, Executive Support Unit for Study and Teaching, Student (Psychological) Counselling Service, Information, Library and IT Service (IBIT)) have an abundance of new responsibilities, many of which increasingly require the application and mastery of new IT equipment and software.
Communication regarding the structuring of the newly offered study opportunities is essential for all of those participating in or affected by the structural reform of study programs. The changes concerning the way academic credit is evaluated are important both in the examinations office and in the advertising aimed at prospective students.
Advising and accompanying the various players in this process figures prominently in our plans, especially in light of recent experiences with the Bologna Process. To this end, Faculty II have decided to expand their activities under the heading 'Academics and Teaching' (Studium und Lehre), as it appears on the website. This involves the creation of an on-site advisory service for questions regarding these and similar issues. This Advisory Service for Academics and Teaching has been in place since 01/01/2008.
