COAST is currently undergoing a transformation phase to become TRUST – Center for Transformations and Sustainable Futures.
Following the retirement of Thomas Klenke, Malena Ripken has taken over the head of the Center as of January 1, 2023.

The research centre COAST unites activities in the field of sustainability sciences, linking natural and social sciences, economics, computing sciences and renewable energies focussing on the connection between societies and the environment in coastal areas. COAST fosters interdisciplinary research projects of the involved research institutes and supports the involvement of external partners; it combines teaching activities of sustainability-related Master's degree programs and offers a joint professionalization phase in the Bachelor's degree.
