Mentoring is an efficient tool for the development of careers that mentor and mentee can individually form according to their individual interests. In most cases, an accompanying program offers additional opportunities for interdisciplinary qualification.
In personal meetings the mentor offers personal professional knowledge, helps building up or entering networks, and offers advice in transition periods between career phases of the mentee.
Varying forms of mentoring programmes address academics in different phases of their careers. Currently, the University of Oldenburg is preparing a mentoring programme for female doctoral researchers, postdocs, junior professors, junior research group leaders and tenure track professors that is expected to start in 2021. Further information will be provided here from 2020.
From November 2019 onwards the Innovative Hochschule Jade Oldenburg (IHJO!) will run the mentoring programme “Praktisch vernetzt! – Neue Impulse von Fach- und Führungskräften” [link] for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers of the University of Oldenburg planning a career outside academia.
