Studying without A-levels: increase in applicants by a third

More and more academically qualified students want to study at the University of Oldenburg. The number of applicants for admission-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes in the winter semester 2012/13 was 169, an increase of 38 percent compared to the previous year.

More and more academically qualified students want to study at the University of Oldenburg. The number of applicants for admission-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes in the winter semester 2012/13 is 169, an increase of 38 percent compared to the previous year.

161 of them fulfil the requirements and are taking part in the university place allocation procedure. Overall - as in previous years - state-recognised educators are the most strongly represented professional group.
"As we are committed to the idea of an 'open university', we expressly welcome this development as an enrichment of our student body," explained Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde, Vice President for Studies and Teaching.

"The increase in applicants who obtain their university entrance qualification via the so-called 3+3 regulation is particularly pleasing," says Gunda Schulze, Head of the Admissions Office. This regulation enables a subject-related degree programme after at least three years of vocational training and three years of professional experience. "For this group of applicants, the number of applications increased to 37 for the 2012/13 winter semester. This corresponds to an increase of 48 per cent compared to the previous year," says Schulze. It is mainly graduates from academic appointments in the commercial sector who find their way to university via this subject-related route. This year, 99 applicants received full or partial admission to a Bachelor's degree programme at the University of Oldenburg under this scheme.

In addition to applications for Bachelor's degree programmes with restricted admission, enrolment for degree programmes without restricted admission is still possible until 15 October. Here, too, the Admissions office team is expecting increased interest from applicants without an Abitur.

The "Open University" project offers special events for those with academic appointments to prepare them for their studies (www.oh.uni-oldenburg.de).
