"Today we are realising a piece of the future for 72 committed students," said University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon at the presentation ceremony for the Germany Scholarships. She added: "Winning so many sponsors for a cause shows how willing there is in the north-west to support the University of Oldenburg and its students." She would like to thank all supporters, such as entrepreneurs, service providers and private donors, said Simon. They were present at the presentation of the certificates, as were the scholarship holders and their families.

The Deutschlandstipendium amounts to 300 euros per month and lasts for one year. Half of the sum comes from the federal government if the university succeeds in raising the other half from private donors. The University of Oldenburg has been very successful with 72 scholarships co-financed by the federal government.

"The Germany Scholarship gives students valuable time to concentrate on their studies," said Prof Dr Gunilla Budde, Vice President for Studies and Teaching. "We hope that the Germany Scholarship will create even stronger ties between students, the university and the region - with a lasting effect."
When selecting the Oldenburg scholarship holders, it was not only outstanding credits that counted - as stipulated by the federal government. "We particularly wanted to support students who have family commitments of all kinds: parents who are studying, single parents, but also students who are caring for relatives," said Budde.

The selected students come from all subject areas. Most frequently represented are Economics, Special Education, Educational Sciences and Computing Science.

The university would like to thank MLP Finanzdienstleistungen AG for its financial support of the award ceremony.
