Language support for university, school and voluntary work
Every semester, new international students come to the university and learn German before starting their studies. Immigrant children and young people who have little or no knowledge of German are also taught in schools every day. For all of them, learning German is a major challenge.
There is a great need for support - and you can help!
The Language Center offers an intensive language support workshop once a semester (usually in September and March).
Contents of the workshop
The aim of the workshop is to prepare you to support children, young people or students in learning German as a language tutor. The workshop will cover the following topics, among others:
- What is language support?
- What intercultural misunderstandings can I encounter?
- What does an immigrant child or an international student actually learn in a German course?
- How can I support them in learning German?
- Which textbooks are used at schools or at the Language Center of the University of Oldenburg?
- How do I teach language, vocabulary and grammar?
- How do I correct learners?
The workshop is very practice-oriented and offers you the opportunity to get to know materials, receive tips and food for thought and try out your own ideas directly.
Participation
Students from all disciplines who are interested in supporting immigrant children and young people, international students or other people on a voluntary basis as a language tutor can take part.
Would you like to volunteer as a language tutor at a school?
