The history of the university from the perspective of its former presidents
The following pages provide a special insight into the founding rector and former presidents of the University of Oldenburg. They have all reflected on their time at the helm of the university and provide deep insights into the often difficult decision-making processes, the impositions of politics and the conflicts they had to endure.
The idea for this special historical outline goes back to the entrepreneur and Honorary Chairman of the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg e. V. (UGO), Dr h. c. Peter Waskönig (1932-2017). Together with the former and long-standing university spokesperson Gerhard Harms, he published the book "Mehr Lust als Last?", which ran until 2015.
The editors' foreword and introduction to the second expanded edition, which was published in 2017, can also be found on these pages.
