With the Northwest Alliance, the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen and in collaboration with the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands) have set themselves the goal of jointly combining excellent research with social responsibility. The universities recently submitted the proposal as an excellence alliance "Northwest Alliance: Connecting for Tomorrow" to the German Research Foundation.

Expanding international contacts and fostering talent
Through the Research Advisor for International Networking (RAIN) programme, the
University of Oldenburg is strengthening collaboration and exchange among outstanding researchers
, with the medium- and long-term aim of increasing the number of internationally funded researchers (e.g. through the ERC) based in Oldenburg. This is to be achieved through various mobility schemes for advisors and hosts, as well as for their early-career researchers.

Early-career opportunities within the context of the Excellence Strategy
The UOL was successful in the funding programme “Strategic Development of Potential - zukunft.niedersachsen” which is supported by the State Government of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation. To foster dialogue with the humanities and social sciences, a key objective is to support researchers in the early stages of their careers. You can find all available opportunities here.
Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg Delmenhorst
Founded in 1995, the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) in Delmenhorst is a non-profit foundation under private law supported by the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen and the city of Delmenhorst. The main task of the HWK is to strengthen the nationally and internationally recognised research potential of the surrounding universities and research institutions, in particular the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen.

The University of Oldenburg currently has two strategic partner universities: the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands) and the Nelson Mandela University (South Africa). The strategic cooperation extends across all faculties and covers the areas of teaching and research.
