Laboratories for university medicine

The School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Oldenburg is getting new laboratories for its research projects. Six laboratory modules have now "floated" to their place on the Wechloy campus.

The huge crane could be recognised from afar over the last few days: On the open space next to the NeSSy (Neurosensorics and Safety Critical Systems) research building on the Wechloy campus, a towering lifting machine lifted six laboratory modules, delivered overnight by heavy transport, into position one after the other. The containers have a usable area of around 600 square metres and are planned to be used for eight years. A further modular building, which will be erected next to the laboratories in the coming months, will house offices for the university medical centre.

The special crane initially placed the laboratory modules provisionally on the extension site in Wechloy. As soon as the foundations have been poured, the construction road laid and the pipes installed, the laboratory modules will be moved into their final position.

The School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences is thus responding to the increased demand for space and infrastructure. The Departments of Physiology, Immunology, Medical Genetics and Neurosurgery are expected to move into the rooms in late summer 2020. The costs for the modular building, totalling around 1.9 million euros, will be covered by University Medicine from its own funds.
