New format for founders and young scientists

Interlinking science and business in the region even better: The "Future[s]unternehmen Nordwest" series of events organised by the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen is dedicated to this goal. The kick-off event on 29 March in the BIS Hall will focus on "IT and technology in care ".

As a platform for dialogue, the new series is intended to benefit young scientists, academic founders and established business leaders alike and promote the region's innovative strength. The first of initially three events is dedicated to the healthcare industry and will take place on Wednesday, 29 March at 7 p.m. in the university's library hall (Haarentor campus, Uhlhornsweg 49-55). The topic: "IT and technology in care - opportunities and limits of smart networking".

Participants can expect a new event format: first, several experts will shed light on the topic in keynote speeches from their respective perspectives - followed by direct discussions between the participants in alternating pairs or small groups, similar to "speed dating". For example, the organisers also want to bring business executives into contact with founders or doctoral candidates. This is based on the conviction "that the exchange is beneficial for both sides - established and newcomers," says Sarah Zumbrock from the Department for Research and Technology Transfer at the University of Oldenburg. Moderator Tanja Föhr will visualise and document impulses and findings in the plenary session with drawings during the event.

"IT and technology in care" as the topic of the kick-off event concerns a large sector; after all, twelve per cent of the workforce in north-west Germany work in the healthcare industry or conduct research into health and care. Can nursing research and practice in the region be linked even better? Where is there potential for innovation, where might there be a need for training? These and other aspects will be discussed. The keynote speeches will examine, among other things, the academisation of care, innovations from a start-up perspective and the question of how technology can improve the situation of carers or ensure better care in telecare.

In addition to the Universities of Oldenburg and Bremen, the Oldenburg affiliated Institute GIZ gGmbH and the City of Oldenburg's Economic Development Agency are also involved in the "Zukunft[s]unternehmen Nordwest" series as cooperation partners. The second event on 11 May will focus on "Energy industry and innovation". An event on "Logistics and Innovation" is being planned for autumn 2017. Registration is required.
