Pflege - Advanced Nursing Practice (M. Sc.)

The University of Oldenburg is offering a part-time Master's degree programme in Advanced Nursing Practice for the winter semester 2024/25. The aim of the degree programme is to train nurses as advanced practice nurses and prepare them for a clinical-practical professional role. The focus is on the ability to make science-based actions and decisions in direct nursing interactions. The curriculum is orientated towards the skills that will be required in the future by academically trained nurses to ensure evidence-based care practice. Clinical expertise and the implementation of Advanced Practice Nursing roles in the respective care settings are at the centre of this.

Students should acquire the skills to

  • analyse highly complex problems
  • develop new evidence-based solution strategies and nursing concepts
  • work on research questions in an interdisciplinary context
  • offer effective nursing services according to the latest scientific findings and reflect on these critically
  • actively promote healthcare on the basis of professional knowledge and actively support digitalisation.

Study content and structure

The course has a modular structure and includes a total of 120 credit points (CP). The modules are divided into a compulsory and an elective area. 72 credits are acquired in the compulsory area and 18 credits in the compulsory elective area. The master's thesis, together with a final colloquium, comprises 30 credits.

The modules in the compulsory area are based on the role model of Advanced Nursing Practice (according to Hamric) and are divided into the subject areas of “Clinical Action”, “Clinical Knowledge” and “Nursing Science”. In the elective area, students can deepen their skills in the areas of “professional development”, “nursing and digitalization” as well as “competencies and skills for scientific project work”.

Organisation

The Nursing – Advanced Nursing Practice course is designed to be part-time. The standard period of study is five semesters.

The workload of the course is carried out in attendance and self-study time. Most of the attendance time takes place at the Carl von Ossietzky University. Selected seminars in the elective area are partly offered online.

In-person study in semesters 1-3 takes place on two fixed days a week. The central element for supporting self-study is the Internet-based work and learning environment Stud.IP at the University of Oldenburg, on which all courses are set up. For some modules, topic-specific study material was developed, which is interactively integrated into Stud.IP. 50% of face-to-face teaching in the elective modules takes place online and on campus. Some elective modules are offered as a block week that does not take place during the usual lecture period.

No attendance time at the university is planned for the fourth semester, as all seminars and lectures take place online. This semester we plan to complete the internship, which can therefore also take place abroad.

In the fifth semester, weekly colloquia (2 SWS) take place to accompany the master's thesis. These will take place online or in person - depending on the needs of the students.

Akkreditierung

The course is currently in the accreditation process (system accreditation of the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg).

The development of the course was supported by the BMBF projects “Establishment of part-time nursing courses in nursing and health sciences - PuG” and “Future of Nursing: PIZ – Nursing Innovation Center”.
