Tiny Forest
Tiny Forest
A Tiny Forest is to be created on the Haarentor campus this year. This is a small forest specially designed for small areas in urban spaces. The joint planting event for employees and students will take place at the university on November 29, 2024.
A Tiny Forest is a small, densely planted forest that is planted in urban areas. These mini-forests often consist of native tree species and usually only cover around 200 to 400 square meters. The aim is to ecologically enhance smaller areas, such as the classic dog meadow. They can have a positive impact on biodiversity at the site, contribute to climate protection and adaptation and improve air quality.

FAQ
How can I register for the event?
You can register for the event in the following ways
- directly via the registration form on this website
- by e-mail to
The registration deadline is November 25.
I have registered for the event. When will I receive further information?
We will contact all registered persons again by e-mail a few days before November 29, probably on November 25 or 26.
I would like to take part in the event, but I can't come straight away at 10 am. Can I join later?
It's no problem if you can't be there right away at 10 am. You are welcome to join us later. Please register anyway using the methods described and let us know your expected arrival time.
Is there a limited number of participants?
We have initially limited the number of participants to 50 people. Otherwise the event would probably become too crowded.
However, we are pleased about the great interest and have set up a waiting list. If you are on the list, we will contact you immediately if a place has become available for you.
What do I do if I am unable to attend the event at short notice?
In this case, please send us a short message to klimaschutz@uol.de to let us know that you are unable to attend. This will help us with the further planning of the event.
Is the event exclusively for university members?
The event is primarily aimed at university members. However, you can still bring external persons, such as friends, roommates or family members. In this case, just let us know briefly by e-mail to .
How long will the event last?
We can't say for sure because it also depends on how many people take part. We also don't have the experience for this type of event. However, we reckon that if 15 people take part, the planting campaign will be completed after about 3 hours.
However, you do not have to register for a specific duration. We are happy if you can join us for half an hour, for example. Of course, we are also happy if you stay for the whole event.
How exactly does the event work?
After a brief welcome and introduction, we get straight down to planting. The area has already been prepared and dug up. Beforehand, we will mark the area and distribute the seedlings so that we can start planting straight away. We will then spread mulch over the area.
In total, we will plant around 500 seedlings on the day.
What kind of clothes should I wear?
We recommend wearing clothing that can get dirty. It should also allow a certain amount of freedom of movement. In addition, certain weather conditions and temperatures may prevail at the end of November, to which your clothing should be adapted.
Do I need to bring anything to the event?
It is not really necessary for you to bring anything with you. If you have your own work gloves and can or want to use them, you are welcome to do so.
I'm interested in the planting event but can't make the date. Will there be more events of this kind?
We want to continue to offer "hands-on" events in the future that implement projects directly on campus. There are currently no concrete plans for another planting campaign, as we want to gain experience with the Tiny Forest first. We will certainly offer events on ecological projects again and again.
We therefore recommend that you subscribe to our small newsletter, in which we regularly draw your attention to projects and these events.
