Ancient languages

Old Testament Hebrew (Ancient Hebrew)

  • Old Testament Hebrew is offered in two one-semester modules (pb117 and pb118) of four hours each and is endowed with a total of 12 CP after a performance record in both semesters (professionalisation area).
  • The course for beginners (Hebrew I) is offered in the winter semester and continued in the following summer semester (Hebrew II). A six-week intensive Hebrew course (Hebrew I and II) is offered during the summer holidays, which is also open and suitable for students who begin their studies in the following winter semester at the University of Oldenburg.
  • The course can be completed with both passed module exams as proof of subject-related Hebrew knowledge. The course can also be completed with the Hebraicum if desired.
  • The 6 CP module Reading Hebrew Texts (pb269) applies the knowledge gained in the modules Old Testament Hebrew I-II in the context of larger text blocks or writings of the Old Testament and opens up biblical texts in their linguistic and exegetical depth. As a Hebrew Soc. it is available to all those who wish to apply previously acquired Hebrew knowledge and deepen their language skills. The module is also suitable as a revision course.

New Testament Greek (Koine)

  • New Testament Greek is offered in two one-semester modules (pb218 and pb219) of four hours each and is endowed with a total of 12 CP after a performance record in both semesters (professionalisation area).
  • The course for beginners (Introduction to New Testament Greek I) is offered in the winter semester and continued in the following summer semester (Introduction to New Testament Greek II). The course can be completed with both passed module examinations as proof of subject-related Greek knowledge.
  • Students who would like to acquire subject-related knowledge of Latin and Greek are recommended to start with the Greek courses, since knowledge of Greek is required for the229 exegesis module (Greek or Hebrew is compulsory for the grammar school teaching profession of Protestant religion in addition to Latin). Due to the amount of work involved, it is generally not recommended to take both languages in parallel with the subject studies.

Latin for theologians

  • A subject-related Latin course is offered in two one-semester modules (pb033 and pb034) of four hours each and is endowed with a total of 12 CP after a performance record in both semesters (professionalisation area).
  • The course for beginners (Latin for Theologians I) is offered in the winter semester and continued in the following semester (Latin for Theologians II). The course can be completed with both passed module examinations as proof of subject-related Latin knowledge.
  • Students who would like to acquire subject-related knowledge of Latin and Greek are recommended to start with the Greek courses, since knowledge of Greek is required for the229 exegesis module (Greek or Hebrew is compulsory for the grammar school teaching profession of Protestant religion in addition to Latin). Due to the amount of work involved, it is generally not recommended to take both languages in parallel with the subject studies.
