Teacher education has been a hallmark of UOL’s academic profile from its founding. It has become an area of increasing interest for UG. Building on long-established practice in student mobility between the universities, UOL in 2020 invited UG to become a partner in a joint DAAD project focussing on the internationalisation of teacher education. The project involves the University of Port Elizabeth, South Africa as a third partner. Through different formats for trilateral exchange, including workshops and summer schools, the project aims at developing joint modules focusing on dimensions of diversity in the classroom. In addition, the project aims at increasing student and teacher mobility between the three institutions. Among the disciplines engaged in the project are Pedagogy, English, Dutch and German Studies, Special Needs Education, Music, and Chemistry. Special attention will be focused on the differences between the various educational systems. As long-term effects, the partners expect the project to give rise to structural changes and a more strategic cooperation in teacher training.
UG is engaged in an Erasmus+ European University network, “ENLIGHT”, in which teacher education is an important element. Results from this project will be shared with UOL.
