Exciting experiments and tricky questions: Two competitions for pupils from the region took place in the Institute's laboratories.
The ‘Chemistry in Action’ competition for years 9 and 10 is organised in cooperation with XperimenT!, the NorthWest Research Centre for school pupils. This year, 14 schools took part in the competition with their teams. Each team consisted of two students who attempted to obtain pure samples from a 5-component mixture on the day of the competition. The teams then presented a self-designed poster on the topic of Nobel Prize winners in chemistry to a jury from the Institute and completed a multiple-choice test on chemistry topics.
The placings:
- First place: Neues Gymnasium (Oldenburg)
- Second place: Altes Gymnasium (Oldenburg)
- Third place: Niedersächsisches Internatsgymnasium (Esens)
- Special prize for the best poster: Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium (Leer)
- Best individual participant 9th grade: Adrian Harms, Neues Gymnasium (Wilhelmshaven)
- Best individual participant 10th year: Karla Dinkgrefe, Liebfrauenschule (Cloppenburg)
The „ANALYSE!” competition was aimed at pupil of the year gruop 12. 18 schools took part, each with a team of three pupils.
The placings:
- First place: Domgymnasium (Verden)
- Second place: Max-Planck-Gymnasium (Delmenhorst)
- Third place: Altes Gymnasium (Oldenburg)
Congratulations to all winners!
But this year, too, the focus was on enthusiasm
The team rankings are not the top priority for the organisers and participants. Tinkering in the lab encourages young people's enthusiasm and fires their interest in chemistry topics. In addition, working in cross-grade teams brings interested parties together as they can only find a solution together. The fact that this idea is very popular with schools can be seen from the numerous registrations from all over the region.
