University Clinic of Cardiac Surgery
The University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Oldenburg Hospital focuses on the surgical treatment of heart failure. Heart operations (with and without heart-lung machines) are performed here, as well as around 800 implantations of pacemakers and defibrillators.
The University Hospital's treatment spectrum includes coronary bypass operations, the treatment of valvular disease (heart valve defects), surgery on the aorta, peripheral arteries, congenital and acquired heart defects and tumour surgery.
In order to develop the right treatment concept for each patient, the doctors at the university hospital work closely with the cardiology clinic, which is also attached to the hospital. Oldenburg Hospital also has an interdisciplinary centre for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO centre for short.
