"Transculturality and music education - opportunities and challenges in research, cultural policy and music education practice" is the title of a recently published anthology by Oldenburg musicologists. The editors will present the book on Wednesday, 7 November at 4 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall (Haarentor campus, Building A11).
The volume of essays, edited by Prof Dr Susanne Binas-Preisendörfer and Prof Dr Melanie Unseld - both Institute of Music - with the collaboration of pedagogue Sophie Arenhövel, has been published by Peter Lang Internationaler Verlag. In it, authors from various disciplines examine how the problem of foreignness is dealt with in music lessons, in musicology and in the music business. They discuss the social and cultural need to turn to new concepts of music education.
Alongside the authors, representatives from the fields of music education, cultural policy and migration education will discuss the current challenges and different research perspectives on transcultural music education. The panel will include the Secretary General of the German Music Council Christian Höppner, the music educator Prof Dr Lars Oberhaus and the pedagogue Prof Dr Paul Mecheril - both from the University of Oldenburg. Afterwards, the cultural scientist Prof. Dr Johannes Ismaiel-Wendt (University of Hildesheim) will hold a sound lecture entitled "Listening to the Orient: circling or remembering in culture". The event will be accompanied by musical contributions from Oldenburg students and lecturers. Following the book presentation, ethnomusicologist and DJ Stefanie Alisch will play kuduro, world beats and electro in the Chamber Music Hall.
