Numerous phenomena and experiments on the subject of hearing will be the focus of the open day of the "Haus des Hörens" on Friday, 26 September at 13:00. The motto of this year's event is "Turkey Encounters". The Haus des Hörens is thus joining the "German-Turkish Year of Science" and the "Turkey Encounters" cultural programme organised by the City of Oldenburg.
At the open day, Oldenburg hearing researchers will be demonstrating a newly developed hearing diagnostics test in Turkish, and there will be the opportunity to carry out hearing tests in German or Turkish and receive advice. Guided tours of the hearing garden and lectures on hearing loss will also be offered in German and Turkish.
In the so-called "hearing loss simulator", visitors can get an impression of what hearing loss and its compensation with a hearing aid "feels" like, or they can experience different acoustic scenes in the unique communication acoustics simulator. Under the motto "Everyone hears differently", current research work on improving speech intelligibility on the telephone and on television will be presented. And visitors can experience that robots can learn to hear in the Fraunhofer study laboratory: the scientists show technology applications in which computers not only recognise voice commands, but also certain sounds such as coughing. A wide range of hands-on experiments are available for children. Admission is free.
