A step into the off-grid community…

Aliqyaan Sakarwala (PPRE 2019-21) from India sharing his experience from his new job at Off-Grid Europe.

Aliqyaan started his journey with PPRE in 2019, pre-COVID times. Once COVID struck, everything from his lectures to his defence of his master thesis was in an online format. Afterwards, he got an opportunity to work with the German Aerospace Center (DLR-VE), Oldenburg where he published a paper based on his master thesis, which is under review. He met with the folks of the company Off-Grid Europe (OGE) at an exhibition where he had an excellent conversation with one of the co-founders and was offered a job at their company.

Off-Grid Europe GmbH is a German company based in the south of Germany in a small town called Pfullendorf. They specialize in renewable energy technology (Solar PV) for power generation and storage solutions. OGE works on the whole spectrum, from providing customized planning and systems design to the installation and maintenance of the systems. Innovation and constant optimization of technology are an integral part of OGE who aspire to fight energy poverty and be part of the green transition. Since 2020, OGE is part of the project ASER300 (Agence Sénégalaise d‘Electrification Rurale, GAUFF Engineering, KfW) that set the target to electrify at least 300 villages in Senegal. In the course of realizing the project, OGE set up the Senegalese subsidiary Off-Grid Africa in order to establish itself long-term in the west-african market.

OGE offers the following solutions:

  • Mini-Grids - Low voltage systems for Rural Electrification
  • High voltage Battery Energy Storage Systems - For grid stability and support
  • Container solutions - A Plug & Play off-grid turnkey solution with an innovative and self-designed Sun Hat (Solar panel array on the top of the container)
  • Off-grid Controller - An inhouse monitoring and control platform for our off-grid systems
  • Cooling warehouse - An off-grid central cooling unit for rural agriculture and farming needs

Aliqyaan works in the research and development team where they are testing LFP battery technology for their new High Voltage Container projects. Alongside with that, he works closely with the production team of the container solutions for the ASER300 project. One thing he really likes about the company is the cultural diversity (Just like PPRE). People form 15+ different nationalities work together in making the goal of Rural Electrification, Decarbonization and “Energiewende” come true.
