Experience Report: SuRE Students at Tennet Transformer Substation

Three of our SuRE (2022-24) students, Yovitza Romero, Sayed Abdullah AbuChen Tzu-Hsien, visited the Tennet Transformer Substation and share their experience.

On the day of June 24th, 2023, we three SuRE students visited the Tennet substation opening day in Klattenhofstraße, Wiefelstede. We were all provided with safety equipment before starting the tour.

Regarding the substation, this is a special one where extra high voltage lines are linked to the supply lines of the regions and electricity is transformed to different voltage levels. In addition, we got the opportunity to take a closer look through different components and areas of the substation such as transformers, and the control room; to get an overall idea of the working principle of the substation and its components. It was a around half-an-hour visit.

Afterwards, we were guided to the Tennet Exhibition where we got an overall overview of their projects which they are currently working on in collaboration with other organizations and companies. All projects were mainly focused on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. We were able to do some networking with project managers associated with those projects and have an interesting exchange of ideas.

We may say that this visit organized by Tennet TSO GmbH was a good opportunity for us as students to integrate real case projects into our background and gain some practical experience. We would all like to thank the organizers of this visit, and expect to have this opportunity for more students from the PPRE community in the future.
