The Future Living Sustainability Conference 2021

Swanand Tadlimbekar from India (PPRE 2019-21) was invited to take part in Sustainability conference organised by The Future Living, which took place online on HOWSPACE platform for the first time in May 2021.
Swanand found the topics covered personally interesting and would like to share his experience gained with the PPRE community, so that other fellows might be interested to join similar conferences to come.

Title: The Future Living Sustainability Conference 2021
Date of conference: 3rd to 7th May 2021
Medium: Online
Conference Website: thefutureliving.com/conference-2021/

Summary of the conference:
The conference unfolded the topics strategically and in a systematic way, starting with the steps to be taken at a global level to a personal level to implement goals laid down for sustainable living and the future. The everyday session comprised of an expert talk, an open discussion platform for panel talks and workshops, a networking session, and a concluding evening lecture. Along with this, there were multiple works of literature and provisions for quizzes, quick readout texts, daily activities as well as surveys.

The important learnings comprised of reducing the communication gap of the decision-making authorities and the ground working communities, seeking concrete steps to ensure the percolation of concepts into the system. Also, new concepts at a personal level like the Doughnut Economy, Circular Humansphere and Future prototyping were really interesting. Sustainability being a multi-fold complex topic, panelists also suggested to ‘reinvent the wheel’ to gain better or new perspectives to effectively implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established at national and international levels.

The SDGs are just not the responsibility of higher authorities in the government but also an integral part of the work environment at industry, institute, university, organizational as well as social levels. With correct communication, strategic planning, guidance, and willpower, the SDGs can be accepted and implemented into the habits for a sustainable lifestyle and subsequently passing on to future generations. As a breakthrough, some bold changes at the individual level were also communicated and shared with the forum stating the importance and positive impact of such radical changes to create awareness among the society.

I actively suggested and absorbed in the sustainable changes to be made at the business/organizational level which eventually will leave a positive footprint on society and becoming a role model for the other organizations. Also, I interacted with experts to articulate the concepts of resilience into sustainability to reinforce the steps to an adaptable as per the dynamic and unknown adverse environmental situations to ensure a young energetic future for all individuals.
