Internships during your studies

In addition to the value that an internship can have for your personal career, it is also an important part of your degree programme - a compulsory component for the Bachelor's degree programme and an optional component for the Master's degree programmes.

Internships in the Bachelor's degree programme

For all dual Bachelor’s degree programmes, students must complete one or two work placement modules totalling 15 credit points. These credit points are counted towards the area of specialisation, but are supported by one of your subjects in the form of accompanying modules.

There are certain opportunities to have previous work experience recognised for credit. Longer stays in Slavic-speaking countries (semesters abroad or language courses) may also be recognised as work placements, provided that the work completed abroad has not already been credited elsewhere. Please bear in mind, however, that internships are of crucial importance for your future career prospects. They should therefore play a correspondingly significant role in your degree programme. Please check whether you might have the opportunity to undertake an internship in other locations or even to go abroad. Should any issues arise with your study plan as a result, please contact your lecturers or the study counsellors.

Further information can be found in the internship regulations for the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree programme

Career goal: teaching:

Students aiming for a career in teaching must complete two training modules:

  • the orientation internship (prx101), which generally lasts three weeks (90 hours and accompanying course / 3 CP + 3 CP). This should take place in settings outside of school.
  • the General School Placement (ASP) (prx102), which usually lasts 6 weeks (180 hours and accompanying course / 6 CP + 3 CP). This should be carried out at the type of school for which you are aiming to teach.

non-teaching career goal:

Students who are not pursuing a career in teaching may choose between the following options:

  • 1. A career-related placement, usually lasting 12 weeks (prx108; 360 hours and accompanying course / 12 CP + 3 CP)
  • 2 career-related internships of 3 + 6 weeks (prx101/prx106 + prx107; 90 + 180 hours and 2 accompanying courses / 6 CP + 9 CP)

Further information on extracurricular internships and the requirements for the ‘Placement Report’ assessment by the Institute of Slavic Studies can be found inthe ‘Guide to the Placement Report’.
