Teaching and Research Emphasis

The Master of Arts is research and career-related. It is characterized by the interweaving of practical, empirical and theoretical disciplinary reflections. Students are being qualified for an interdisciplinary research and development of concepts which in face of the increasing significance of sports as a leisure activity as well as cultural, educational and health-political tool not only for students of sports science, but also in related disciplines (sociology, cultural studies, education, history, psychology, political science, medicine, biology, health and nutrition) are becoming more and more attractive and important.

The context of theory and research of the programme equips graduates with extensive skills and qualifications.
These include social science research methods, scientific empiricism and medical training of scientific diagnosis and advice that clearly distinguishes them from graduates of degree programmes or courses that are related to comparable professional areas (physiotherapists and occupational therapists, sports and fitness instructor, health managers, etc.). Main qualifier is their ability to theory-and research-based design of target sports and exercise programmes in various sports and health facilities (rehabilitation hospitals, health and fitness clubs, big clubs, etc.) that are implemented by graduates of adjacent training into practice.
