Application deadlines

Each individual degree programme has a specific application deadline. To find more information, please click on the degree choice below.

Postgraduate degree programmes

Contrary to the announced application deadlines, applicants for open-admission Master’s degree programmes (NOT Master of Education) are strongly recommended to submit their applications as early as possible before 15 July for the Winter semester and before 15 January for the Summer semester.

Submitting your application documents early has advantages for the start of your studies. For a smooth transition to consecutive degree programmes, please note our information on the local application procedure (German document).

Applications take approximately 5 weeks (+ 4 weeks if you apply through uni-assist) to be processed by the Admissions Office and the admissions committee until the official letter is drawn up and copies of your student records are made.

Therefore, early application leads to the following advantages:

  • Registration for course units:
You will only have access to Stud.IP once you have successfully enrolled as a student at the university. By applying early, you increase your chances of being able to register for your desired module in time.
  • Early payment of BAföG:
The BAföG office requires confirmation that you are enrolled in the Master's programme in order to process your application. You will only receive a corresponding certificate after successful enrolment.
  • Accommodation:
Increase your chances of finding accommodation early on. Proof of enrolment is also required to get a place in a reasonably priced student hall of residence.
  • Canteen:
You can only buy reduced-price meals in the canteen if you have student status.
  • Public transport:
You can only use public transport free of charge if you have student status, otherwise you have to pay the full price.
