Description

Participants achieve basic knowledge about acoustic measurements and calibration, related standards and operation of typical laboratory equipment.

Course contents:

  • Basics of calibration and audio equipment in the lab
  • Usage of measurement amplifiers and artificial ears
  • Pure tone audiometry and audiometry standards
  • Calibration in the open Master Hearing Aid (openMHA) signal processing software and Oldenburg Measurement Applications (OMA)
  • Free-field calibration and speech audiometry
  • Calibration in VR
  • Control and usage of audio interfaces
  • Pitfalls in the lab
  • Different hands-on tutorial lectures

At the end of the course. students are able to
  • name and explain different decibels,
  • describe the definitions for audiometric calibration in standards,
  • list calibration pitfalls on different technical levels,
  • operate typical calibration equipment and audio interfaces,
  • carry out a level measurement with headphones or loudspeakers in the lab.
