Half a century ago, in December 1973, the state parliament of Lower Saxony decided to found the University of Oldenburg. Studies began in April 1974. Under the motto "50 years open for new paths", the university celebrated its anniversary with an extensive public programme. Numerous events took place on campus, in the city and in the region. Half a century ago, on 5 December 1973, the decision of the Lower Saxony state parliament to found the University of Oldenburg came into force. Studies began in April '74. However, the early years did not always run smoothly. A look back at selected moments in the university's history.
