Postdocs

The University of Oldenburg offers a wide range of opportunities for its postdoctoral researchers (postdocs). In Germany, the postdoctoral phase refers to the period of time after successfully completing a doctorate in which academics gain further qualifications for a limited period of time, e.g. in order to take up a (junior) professorship. Many postdocs hold academic staff positions; others conduct research at our university with a scholarship. Whether it's interdisciplinary networking in the Graduate Academy's workshop and mentoring offers, funding advice on writing research proposals or the support offered by the Welcome Service: on this page you will find all the offers and contact persons.

Research funding

The postdoc phase is characterized by the desire to position oneself as an independent researcher. You can find specific funding opportunities for postdocs on the funding advice pages. The Research Funding team at the Research and Transfer Office can advise you on applying for research funding, your own position or your own junior research group.

Ways to go abroad

Many postdocs want to network themselves and their research internationally; during this phase, they usually change universities or research institutions for a longer or shorter stay in order to further develop their personal profile.

Whether it's to the University of Oldenburg or to the rest of the world: the Research and Transfer Office and the International Office support international academics who are interested in a research or teaching stay in Oldenburg. For Oldenburg academics, they offer advice on applications and information on routes abroad.
Here you will find an overview of national and international research funding organizations and their measures to support individuals, scientific networking, mobility and projects.

Mentoring & Coaching

In the postdoc phase, the focus is not only on research but also on topics such as career development, strategic planning of the next steps and various challenges during the academic qualification period. The University of Oldenburg offers a wide range of free mentoring and coaching services to support its postdocs during this phase.

Postdoc representation

The Postdoc Representation at the University of Oldenburg is an informal interest group made up of postdocs at the university. It is the central point of contact for all postdoc concerns. The representative group in turn approaches the Vice President for Academic Career Paths with concerns and represents the status group of postdocs at university exchange formats. It also organizes networking events and takes part in events such as Postdoc Appreciation Week.

Postdoc program of the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg

The HWK's postdoctoral program supports researchers in the early stages of their careers in all disciplines. As a fellow, researchers gain access to HWK events and the international network and can ultimately organize an international workshop with the support of the HWK.

Application for the Postdoc Program

Mental Health

The University of Oldenburg takes maintaining the mental health of academics in qualification phases very seriously. The doctorate and the postdoctoral period are challenging phases that are characterized by a high degree of personal responsibility and organization, as well as high work demands. The University of Oldenburg would like to raise awareness of the topic of mental health and support its researchers as best it can by offering workshops and advice.
