We will again be able to offer you "Teaching Analysis Polls" (TAP) as a method for the qualitative mid-semester evaluation of your courses in the winter semester 2024/25. This method can be implemented in hybrid conducted, online courses via BigBlueButton (BBB) as well as in face-to-face courses.

TAP - Teaching Analysis Poll
Qualitative, mid-semester review for instructors
"What do students actually think about my course?", "I would like to develop my course. But where do I start?"
If you have asked yourself one of these or similar questions, the "Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP)" is a helpful method for you. The implementation is done by the office of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (hochschuldidaktik@uni-oldenburg.de) and the office of Internal Surveys (evaluation@uni-oldenburg.de).
The method "Teaching Analysis Poll" (TAP) can be implemented in face-to-face courses as well as in synchronously conducted online courses as "digital Teaching Analysis Poll" (digiTAP) via BigBlueButton (BBB). The method is suitable for courses with up to 30 participants.
In addition, we have recently started offering the TAP in a modified form for large courses (bigTAP).
If you are interested you can submit an application. Please note that the participation possibilities are limited due to capacity reasons.
What is a TAP?
The "Teaching Analysis Poll" (TAP) is a feedback instrument for qualitative mid-semester evaluation. In this way, you receive the students’ nuanced feedback on your course. The special feature: You do not receive accumulated individual opinions, but rather statements that a majority of your students agrees on and that allow you to identify strengths and/or weaknesses of your course.
Based a standard set of questions, a trained TAP team collects the students' statements in class, discusses and bundles them together with students. After class, the TAP team processes these statments and discusses the findings with you in a confidential follow-up consultation. Only you, the teacher, will receive the results. We recommend to discuss the students’ feedback in one of the following class sessions. However, it is up to you which topics will be addressed with sutdnets.
Why should you consider a TAP?
- You can get feedback about your class based on a conversation with your students moderated and structured by trained TAP facilitators.
- You can confirm that your teaching strategy is appropriate and/or gather nuanced feedback about changes that could improve your teaching.
- TAP fosters discussion about teaching and learning practices.
- Students reflect upon their learning experience in the course: how the content is presented, what methods are used, and how and whether they are involved.
- Instructors receive feedback during the semester, which is useful for both instructors and their students, leaving enough time to implement changes.
You will receive a TAP participation certificate.
What does the TAP process look like?
- If you would like to request a TAP, please fill out the form below.
- We will get back to you to plan a time (usually near mid-semester) and will provide information about subsequent steps.
- On the agreed date, we will moderate the last 45 minutes of your class.
- Our facilitators will introduce and explain the process to students. Students will then work in small groups to answer the following three questions:
– What helps your learning most in this course?
– What hinders your learning?
– Which specific suggestions do you have for improvement?
Our facilitators will collect student responses. - After the TAP is completed, the facilitator will report findings to you in a confidential follow-up meeting (either online via BigBlueButton BBB or in person). We will discuss the next steps, such as what strategies could be used for improving the course, and we offer, where necessary, pedagogical support.
- In the following class, you can discuss the results with your students.
