Doctorate - and afterwards?

What should you do after your doctorate? Science or business - or something completely different? We have put together some information for you to help you with further career orientation, planning and implementation.

Academic career paths

The University of Oldenburg has adopted strategy papers and concepts that provide an orientation framework for the promotion of academics in early career phases. These also provide graduates with an overview of the professional opportunities available to them after completing their doctorate so that they can strategically plan their future career. You can find out more in the InfoPortal Research and Transfer.

Research funding opportunities for scientists in early career phases

At national and international level, there are various research funding organizations that provide financial support for research projects and networking measures as well as individuals, scientific events or trips in various programs, including the University of Oldenburg, the University Society (UGO), the state of Lower Saxony, the EU, the DAAD, etc. Special funding programs are aimed at researchers in the early stages of their careers. Further information and contact persons can be found in the InfoPortal Research and Transfer; an overview of funding opportunities for researchers in early career phases can be found here.

Start-up funding: Carl von Ossietzky Young Researchers' Fellowship

In addition, applications for start-up funding for junior research groups (Carl von Ossietzky Young Researchers' Fellowship) and for funding to acquire your own position can be submitted via the Presidential Board's program budget. Submission deadlines are February 1st and August 1st of each year. You can find more information on how to apply in the InfoPortal Research and Transfer.

Non-university professional world: Innovative University of Applied Sciences Jade Oldenburg

The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the Jade University of Applied Sciences aim to intensify the mutual exchange with business, society, authorities and cultural institutions in the joint project "Innovative University Jade-Oldenburg!" and thus increase the innovative strength of the region. The "Innovative University" initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

If you have often thought about where your career might take you after your doctorate, we recommend you take a look at the information brochure of the Innovative University Jade-Oldenburg project: Careers and Paths - Tips and Orientation for Students and Doctoral Candidates.
