What is Engineering Physics?
Engineering Physics is a bachelor's programme taught entirely in english at the University of Oldenburg and the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer. The uni-assist e.V. is an external partner of the University of Oldenburg that processes applications from international students. uni-assist conducts a review and assessment of your university entrance qualification and checks applicants‘ certificates to determine what grades they have according to the German grading system.

2) Apply Quickly and with ease
To start the actual enrollment process:
- Create a login at uni-assist
- Then, search for the „Engineering Physics“ program.
- Select the University of Oldenburg.
- Finally, click ‚Apply’ – and you’re on your way!

What does foreign degree mean?
- International applicants with degrees from their home or any other foreign country
- EU and EEA citizens
- Germans with foreign school-certificates

Procedural infos
- You will be informed by uni-assist e.V. about the status of your application and the result of the document check.
- The University of Oldenburg does not carry out a preliminary assessment of your certificates.
- Once you are successfully admitted, you will receive a formal offer of admission directly from the University of Oldenburg.
Please include your full name and applicant number in all future correspondence so that we can assist you quickly and smoothly.
The DAAD database for admission requirements allows you to check in advance, without obligation, whether your qualifications meet the admission requirements for studying in Germany. It currently covers around 140 countries.
Uni-assist offers step-by-step instructions for the application process. Please note that processing takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Your application must be submitted in full to uni-assist by the respective deadline.
Submit your application at least three months before the deadline – it’s in your best interest! This will give you enough time to complete all the steps and ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Transfer Students
Chose „Applications with German university entrance qualification“ even if you have an international degree.
It is critical to note that this step is obligatory; failure to complete it will result in the application being considered incomplete.
Processing Fee – uni-assist
Uni-assist charges a 75 Euro handling fee for the assessment of your documents. It is important to note that Uni-assist will only initiate the processing of an application once the complete application documents and the full fee have been received.

Please note that the following list is for guidance only – official and complete requirements are specified by uni-assist.
- High school diploma / Secondary School Certificate
- University grades/ transcripts / degrees
- Proof of German Language Proficiency (“A1” German is the minimum required for the application)
- Proof of English Language Proficiency (“B2” English)
- University admissions test (if available)
- APS-Certificate (ONLY for applicants with a degree from India / China / Vietnam) – Please submit an original by post to uni-assist!

3) Deadline
Applicaton period:
January 16 until October 15
Your complete application must be submitted in full and on time, well before the application deadline.
Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted, and we cannot guarantee processing within the required timeframe.
4) Language Proficiency
Proof of English language proficiency
You must provide official proof of English language skills at level B2 (CEFR).
Proof of German language proficiency
The following language certificates are accepted:
- Goethe-Zertifikat A2/A1
- telc A2 certificate
- ÖSD A2 certificate
- UNIcert basis
You must provide official proof of German language skills at level A2 (CEFR), but proof of level A1 is sufficient for the application. However, you must attain level A2 within one year of starting your studies.
A basic knowledge of German will facilitate your settlement in Germany. If you are considering a career in Germany, it is also a good starting point. Most companies expect German language skills at level B2, unless they operate on an international level. The University of Oldenburg offers a wide variety of language courses, the majority of which are provided free of charge.
The missing language certificate can also be obtained in Germany. The Volkshochschule Oldenburg (adult education centre, short VHS) offers suitable courses at level A1/A2 to prepare for university studies. Applicants apply for a course at the VHS and then enter Germany for the purpose of preparing for university studies on the basis of an invitation from the VHS:
"Studienkolleg"
For those applicants who need to complete the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg in Hannover to be eligible to study at a German university need to hold at least a B2 certificate as a proof of German language proficiency when applying at the University of Oldenburg.
5) Acceptance
Admission is a formal process which involves the admissions committee of Engineeing Physics at the University of Oldenburg as well as the admissions office at the University. You will be notified by the admissions office whether your application has been accepted or not.

Financial Issues
Semester contribution
There is no tuition fee in Germany, but you need to pay a semester contribution:
Financial Statement
The University of Oldenburg does not require a financial statement. However, you need this for your visa and/or afterwards for your residence permit in Germany. In addition, either a declaration of commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung) is necessary or the proof of 11,208 € on a blocked account:
