German Studies in the M.Ed. Primary School programme

As part of the German Studies programme in the M.Ed. Primary School programme, you will study the MM module ‘Subject Didactics with a Specialised Component’ (ger800), worth 9 CP.

The MM module “Subject Didactics with a Specialised Component” (ger800), which is only offered in the winter semester, is structured as follows:
(Note: All details regarding course numbers and titles are for the winter semester 22/23):

• 1 subject-specific didactics lecture
  (2 SWS; in the winter semester 22/23: 3.01.291, timetable to be announced)
  
• 1 subject-specific teaching seminar
  (2 SWS; in the winter semester 22/23, to be chosen from 3.01.292 to 3.01.2994)
  
• 1 specialised lecture
  (Offered in the winter semester 22/23: 3.01.281 by Prof. Dr Jörg Peters (1 SWS) and 3.01.282 by Prof. Dr Thomas Boyken (1 SWS)).
  (A specialised seminar is not being offered in the winter semester 22/23; this means that if you enrol in lecture 3.01.281; you will then be automatically transferred to 3.01.282 at the start of the lecture period; you will attend both lectures and subsequently decide in which of the two lectures you wish to sit the examination.

The specialised lectures run throughout the entire lecture period of the winter semester as two-hour sessions!

If you wish to complete your project portfolio in German Studies, you must also attend the preparatory seminar for the project portfolio during the winter semester. This requires that you are already enrolled on module ger800 in the winter semester 22/23. Several preparatory seminars are on offer. As things stand at present (22 July 2022), these are as follows for the winter semester 22/23:

• 10.31.201 – Preparation for the Language Didactics project portfolio for the subject German
• 10.31.202 – Preparation for the Project Portfolio in Literature Didactics for Primary Schools

In addition, you must complete the practical placement in German as well as in your other subject, and to this end you must enrol in a preparatory course in the winter semester 22/23. This course runs throughout the entire lecture period of the winter semester 22/23 and comprises 2 SWS. (In the winter semester 22/23, you can choose from 10.31.301, 10.31.302, 10.31.303, 10.31.304 and 10.31.305. All are titled ‘Preparation for the Practical Phase in German’. Course 10.31.302 is assigned to the secondary school teacher training programme (Hauptschule/Realschule), whilst the others are assigned to the primary school teacher training programme).

Please note: You must, in all cases, enrol in both the subject-specific didactics lecture and the subject-specific didactics seminar of the ger800 module in the same semester.
If the project module is undertaken within the German Studies programme, the entire ger800 module must be completed before the project module and within a single semester (see the subject-specific appendix for German Studies in the Study Regulations for the M.Ed. in Primary Education, point 5 below the table).

German Studies in the M.Ed. for Secondary/Realschule

In the subject of German Studies, you will study two modules as part of the M.Ed. HR programme: ger771 ‘Subject Didactics’ and ger805 ‘Advanced Knowledge of Linguistics and Literary Studies for Teacher Training Students’, each worth 6 KP.

The module “Subject Didactics” (ger771), which is only offered in the winter semester, is structured as follows:
(Note: All details regarding course numbers and titles are for the winter semester 21/22):

• 1 subject-specific didactics lecture
  (2 SWS; in the winter semester 22/23: 3.01.291, timetable to be announced)
  
• 1 subject-specific teaching seminar
  (2 SWS; in the winter semester 22/23, to be chosen from 3.01.292 to 3.01.2994)

The ger805 course also takes place only in the winter semester and consists of two one-hour lectures:

• 3.01.281 Linguistic Foundations for German Language Teaching: Primary School, Secondary School (Haupt-/Realschule), Special Education.
• 3.01.282 Foundations of Literary Studies for German Language Teaching: Primary School, Haupt-/Realschule, Special Education.

If you wish to undertake your project portfolio in German Studies, you must also attend the preparatory seminar for the project portfolio during the winter semester. This requires that you have already attended modules ger771 and ger805 in the winter semester 22/23. Several preparatory seminars are offered. As things stand at present (22 July 2022), these are as follows for the winter semester 22/23:

• 10.31.201 – Preparation for the Language Didactics Project Portfolio for the subject German
• 10.31.202 – Preparation for the project portfolio on literature didactics for primary schools

In addition, you must complete the practical phase in German as well as in your other subject, and to this end you must enrol in a preparatory module in the winter semester 22/23. This runs throughout the entire lecture period of the winter semester 22/23 and comprises 2 SWS. (In the winter semester 22/23, this is course 10.31.302 for Hauptschule/Realschule).

Please note: You must complete the ger771 module in full within a single semester, as the lecture and seminar are interlinked.
If the project module is undertaken within the German Studies programme, ger771 and ger805 must be completed before the project module and within a single semester (see the subject-specific appendix for German Studies in the Study Regulations for the M.Ed. HR, point 5 below the table).
