The tandem project (run by the universities in Groningen and Oldenburg) is meant to strengthen both foreign language competence and intercultural competence. To gain more practice in speaking German is especially important for the Dutch learners. The tandems consisting of 2–3 students have to work on a task together. They learn a lot about the living context of the others in Groningen and Oldenburg respectively and also get to know them personally. Working together digitally and meeting everyone involved during the framing plenary sessions exposes the students to a different culture, different education system and ways of working. More information on language learning at the University of Groningen: About us – ELC Language Learning (rug.nl)
