UOL | NMU funding programme

As part of the strategic partnership with Nelson Mandela University (South Africa), the University of Oldenburg supports pertinent projects or events with up to EUR 3,000. Lecturers and researchers at the University of Oldenburg can apply for funding.

The funding is intended to support bilateral projects and events that strengthen the partnership between the University of Oldenburg and Nelson Mandela University – essentially, all activities that serve to maintain or expand cooperation. Funding can be requested for projects and events that are linked to the fields of action defined in the roadmap adopted in 2023.

Lecturers and researchers at the University of Oldenburg are eligible to apply.

Lecturers can apply for funding for the following formats in particular, which can be held in presence, hybrid or online:

  •  workshops
  •  summer schools
  •  innovative event concepts

All projects must be bilateral, i.e. both students and/or researchers/lecturers from the University of Oldenburg and Nelson Mandela University must be allowed to participate. Funding is available for mobilities at lecturer/researcher level (in both directions). Such mobilities can be applied for by way of a travel expense application (please note: there is no reimbursement of subsistence costs or daily allowance). Unfortunately, student mobility funding is not available. Projects aimed at the non-university public in Oldenburg and Gqeberha are also eligible for funding.

Up to EUR 3,000 are available per project. As a matter of principle, projects cannot be funded in full; applicants must provide part of the funding. This can also be provided in the form of personnel deployment.

Applications for funding can be submitted in the period from 8 August to 13 September 2024 (for projects planned for 2024 and the first half of 2025).

After this, calls (2x/year) will run until 31 May and 30 November of each year, respectively. The selection committee, chaired by the Vice President for Academic Career Paths, Equal Opportunities and International Affairs, will decide on the funding applications received. To submit an application, please use the application form (in German).
