GHR 300
In Lower Saxony’s education policy, the term ‘GHR 300’ refers to the process of fundamentally restructuring teaching degree programmes for primary, secondaryand lower secondary schools.
As part of this, the duration of the degree programme will be extended from four to five years, meaning that in future it will comprise a total of 300 credit points for the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes combined.
The aim is to better support teacher training students’ eligibility for doctoral study by increasing the proportion of specialised content in the programme. Furthermore, the introduction of a five-month practical placement during the second semester of the Master’s programme will enable students to put the teaching skills they have acquired into practice at an earlier stage.
Changes to the BA programme – from the winter semester 2013/14
- Increase in the subject-specific component of the programme from 108 to 120 credit points in both subjects, thereby bringing it into line with the Bachelor’s programme not geared towards teacher training → the proportion of the area of specialisation is reduced
- Consequently, a new structure for the curriculum in the BA in Material Culture: Textiles has been introduced for the winter semester 2013/14
Changes to the Master of Education (GHR) – from the winter semester 2014/15
- Extension of the degree programme from two to four semesters
- Integrated, five-month practical placement in the second semester → however, the originally planned reduction of the pre-service training period by half a year will not take place
- During the practical phase, a so-called ‘research portfolio’ = a research project carried out by the students, grounded in specialised subject knowledge and pedagogy, on topics relating to school practice
