Internal Medicine, specialising in Oncology and Haematology

Prof. Dr Cyrus Khandanpour has been appointed Professor of Internal Medicine, specialising in Oncology and Haematology, at the Department for Human Medicine. He will also take over as Director of the University Clinic for Internal Medicine – Oncology and Haematology at Klinikum Oldenburg. Previously, he was Professor of Translational Cancer Research at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH).

Khandanpour studied medicine at the Universities of Duisburg-Essen, where he also obtained his doctorate in 2005, and Leicester (United Kingdom). After working as a scientist at a research institute and at McGill University in Montreal (Canada), as well as completing his specialist training and habilitation in Essen, he moved to Münster University Hospital in 2018, where he was appointed adjunct professor. He joined the UKSH in 2022.

Khandanpour’s research focuses on precision oncology approaches, i.e. personalised therapies that specifically target tumour cells while also addressing surrounding cells that promote tumour growth. His goal is to accelerate the translation of innovative therapeutic approaches from research to clinical application. A major focus is on cancer patients who have not responded to prior treatments. He and his team are developing combination therapies tailored to these patients.
