Neuroscientist René Hurlemann appointed

Prof. Dr. Dr. René Hurlemann has been appointed Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Department of Human Medicine. He is also Director of the University Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Karl-Jaspers-Klinik in Oldenburg.

Hurlemann was previously deputy director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at University Hospital of Bonn and director of the department of medical psychology there. He studied human medicine at the University of Bonn, where he earned his doctorate in 2001. During his time as a junior doctor he studied neuroscience at the University of Maastricht (Netherlands) and also received a doctorate in this field. After completing his specialist training Hurlemann became a consultant at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Bonn and was appointed Professor of Medical Psychology in 2013. Hurlemann's main area of clinical expertise is affective and schizophrenic disorders. In the treatment of depressive disorders, he uses non-invasive brain stimulation methods, which he is further developing in his research.
