Making scientific knowledge gained at the university freely accessible to everyone: This is the aim of an Open Access Publication Fund, which the University President's Office is now setting up with the help of funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The English-language keyword "Open Access" stands for making publications and research data accessible worldwide via the Internet without technical or financial barriers. Free access is intended to improve the scientific communication process and increase the visibility of research results.
Together with more than 500 other signatories of the "Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities", the University of Oldenburg is committed to this goal. In the summer, the Presidential Board had already adopted its own Open Access guidelines for the university.
The publication fund is intended to relieve Oldenburg academics of the article processing charges levied by publishers for open access publications. A total of 115,000 euros is available for 2016 and 2017. The Library and Information System (BIS) will manage the fund and is the point of contact for open access at the university.
