Neurosensory Science and Systems
Welcome to the doctoral degree programme "Neurosensory Science and Systems"
This three-year doctoral degree programme addresses researchers pursuing their doctoral project in the Neurosciences. It provides training on research competence, skills concerning knowledge transfer and support for career planning. Currently, about 90 doctoral candidates from such different fields as Physics, Biology, Psychology and Computer Sciences are enrolled, setting the frame for interdisciplinary cooperation and ample networking opportunities.
The study of sensory systems is a key aspect of the neuroscientific research at the University of Oldenburg. Following a multidisciplinary approach, the research groups of the Research Center Neurosensory Science investigate, analyse and model the processing of different kinds of sensory information into internal representations by using a broad spectrum of methods. In this rapidly developing field, a multitude of career options is available to young scientists.
Admission to the programme
Please apply at the Graduate School Science, Medicine and Technology (OLTECH) by using the online application form. Applicants also need to provide a number of documents as listed in the form (e.g. CV, Master certificate, outline of the doctoral project, supervisor's statement,...).
Application deadlines:
1 February for the summer semester
1 August for the winter semester
Curriculum
"Neurosensory Science and Systems" offers several modules distributed across three different qualification areas:
- Specific knowledge: Enhancement of scientific knowledge in the context of the individual research project, as well as active participation in research seminars, congresses, summer schools and lab visits abroad.
- Communication: Training of communicative skills, presentation techniques, language skills and knowledge transfer.
- Transferable skills: Training for career advancement with a focus on statistics, scientific writing and publishing, drafting proposals for grants and funding, as well as acquisition of personal skills helpful for job applications and the future career path.
An overview is available here. Doctoral candidates can choose from a variety of courses to compile a curriculum according to their specific requirements. For successful participation in the degree programme, a total of 30 credit points (European Credit Transfer System) are required, thereof at least 12 in „Specific knowledge”, at least 6 in „Communication” and also at least 6 in „Transferable skills”. Three specific modules are mandatory.
A course directory can be found here. Select the semester of choice from the „Semester selection” box. A click on a module reveals the corresponding courses offered during the given semester.
