French

French is spoken as a first or second language in 57 countries around the world and is considered the "langue par excellence" of diplomacy, business, literature and art. The University of Oldenburg offers numerous opportunities to study in French-speaking countries for a semester or to obtain a double degree.

For these reasons, the Language Centre offers a wide range of French courses.

Course Offers

French Basic Module 1

Basic Module I: takes place in the winter semester. It consists of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation. Target group: This course is aimed at learners with no previous knowledge. Course and exercise book : "Entre Nous 1", paperback, Klett Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-12-530279-2 Additional booklet for German speakers "Entre Nous 1", ISBN: 978-3-12-530271-6 Half of the book is worked on in each semester. Examinations: In each of the two modules, Basic Module I and Basic Module II, a semester-long portfolio is compiled, consisting of the following achievements + the overall grade: 70% of the grade for 7 "dossiers" (consisting of several small homework assignments) handed in during the semester after consultation with the lecturer.

30% of the grade for a short, individual online oral exam (approx. 7 minutes) or (optional) a short essay (approx. 60 to 80 words).

French Basic Module 2

Basic Module II: takes place in the summer semester. It has a duration of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation. Target group: This course is aimed at learners who have either - successfully participated in Basic Module I. - or have taken a placement test at the Language Centre which classifies them as suitable for this course. After successful participation in the course Basic Module II, the participant can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very simple sentences aimed at satisfying concrete needs. He/she can introduce him/herself and ask other people questions about themselves, e.g. where they live, what kind of people they know, or what kind of things they have or like, and can answer questions of this kind. He/she can communicate in a simple way if the interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help. Target group: This course is aimed at learners who have either - successfully taken part in Basic Module II, - or have taken a placement test at the Language Centre which classifies them as suitable for this course. Working materials: Course and exercise book: "Entre Nous 2", paperback, Klett Verlag, ISBN: 978-3-12-530280-8 The book is worked through halfway through each semester. Examinations: In each of the two modules Aufbaumodul I and Aufbaumodul II a semester-accompanying portfolio is compiled consisting of the following performances + total grade: 50% of the grade for a graded test in the middle of the semester (understanding text + essay, approx. 80 words), 50% of the grade for a graded test at the end of the semester (listening comprehension+ essay+ oral contribution to a topic worked on in class, duration: approx. 1-2 min).

French Advanced Module 2

Advanced Module II: takes place in the summer semester. It consists of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation. Target group: This course is aimed at learners who have either - successfully participated in Advanced Module I, - or have taken a placement test at the Language Centre which classifies them as suitable for this course. After successful participation in the advanced module II, the learners have mastered an elementary general vocabulary and first basic structures and means of expression of the French language. They are able to communicate in everyday situations and can give or obtain simple information (e.g. origin, education, studies, family). They can compose simple written texts and are able to understand socio-cultural aspects of the Francophone language area in relation to immediate concerns. French Advanced Module 2

Advanced Module II: takes place in the summer semester. It has a duration of 56 teaching hours; 6 credit points are awarded for successful participation. Target group: This course is aimed at learners who have either - successfully taken in-depth module I, - or have taken a placement test at the Language Centre which classifies them as suitable for this course. After successful participation in the Advanced Module II course, the successful participant will be able to understand the main points when clear standard language is spoken and when dealing with familiar matters from work, study, leisure. He/she can cope with most situations encountered when travelling in the francophone language area. He/she can express him/herself simply and coherently on familiar topics and areas of personal interest. He/she can describe experiences and events, dreams, wishes, hopes and ambitions and give brief reasons or explanations for plans and opinions.
