Newsletter August 2020

Another Newsletter for our HPC users from August 2020

once again, we would like to share some information with you through our newsletter:

  1. Burst Buffer Testing: We have integrated a new storage server into the HPC cluster which provides a so-called burst buffer. Similarly to $TMPDIR, a job can request a directory with a certain size which is then available during the job for very fast I/O. The server with four NVMes can provide an I/O-bandwidth of up to 12GB/s, while a single compute node is limited to 6GB/s due to the FDR Infiniband. Please let us know if you have I/O-intensive applications that you would like to benchmark with the burst buffer. Details on the usage are explained in the HPC wiki.
  2. Dates: Please take note following upcoming events
  3. Software News: The following modules are now available on hpc-env/8.3:
    • Lumerical/2020-R2.1-2408
    • Mesa/20.0.2-GCCcore-8.3.0
    • X11/20200222-GCCcore-8.3.0
    • IOzone/3.490-foss-2019b
    • PyTorch/1.6.0-fosscuda-2019b-Python-3.7.4
    • PROJ/6.2.1-GCCcore-8.3.0

The list above might not be complete, you can always search for software with the command “module spider <softwarename>”.

The next newsletter is planned for October.
