Scientific Computing
Scientific Computing is a department within the Operational Unit for Technical and Scientific Infrastructure (BI) in School V – Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oldenburg (see the establishment resolution as amended on 3 January 2018). The staff of the Scientific Computing Department offer support to all members of the university in using the high-performance computer. Among other things, the following services are provided:
- Advice and, where necessary, support in the implementation of scientific projects requiring the use of a high-performance computer.
- Support with the porting and installation of scientific applications on high-performance computers.
- Planning and delivery of training courses on topics relating to scientific computing and high-performance computing.
- Coordination of procurement relating to ‘scientific computing’ or high-performance computing systems, in consultation with the IT services.
- Organising regular meetings with user representatives and representatives of the IT services.
Representatives from the participating Schools and the IT services form an academic advisory board which advises the head of the Scientific Computing Unit on matters of fundamental importance.
