Cooperation Oldenburg-Groningen
The University of Oldenburg and the University of Groningen have worked together closely for more than 40 years, having signed a cooperation agreement in 1980. With the founding of the University of Oldenburg's School of Medicine and Health Sciences this cooperation has deepened: the European Medical School, a joint project of the two universities, now offers a cross-border medical degree programme. This project is unique in Europe and sets new standards in medical education.
Groningen and Oldenburg scientists also collaborate closely in their work, creating synergies in pioneering areas of research. In addition, the two universities cooperate on clinical care services, ensuring that patients in the region benefit considerably from this German-Dutch collaboration.
Studies
The aim of the Human Medicine degree programme is to promote European cooperation in medical education through cooperation with Groningen. Oldenburg students can spend part of their degree programme in Groningen. There are various options for this so that students can utilise flexibility in planning their Groningen exchange. For example, they can do their research work there in their fourth or fifth year of study or complete parts of their block internships or practical year in Groningen.
Research
The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and the University of Groningen have developed close ties over more than 40 years of intense collaboration. They have carried out numerous joint scientific projects. Since the founding of Oldenburg's School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2012, the two universities have intensified their cross-border research activities in the fields of medicine and health sciences. One example is the joint PhD programme "Translational Research: From Pathological Mechanisms to Therapy", which started in 2017/2018.
Administrative matters
For academics who are planning a research stay in Groningen or who want to establish or consolidate co-operation with the RUG/UMCG we put together some useful information.
