Sneep Oldenburg

sneep ethics & economics
Local group: Oldenburg

Sneep, the Student Network for Economic and Business Ethics (www.sneep.info) was co-founded by two Oldenburg students in late 2003 as a nationwide – now international – student network so as to create a platform for student interest in sustainable management, Corporate Social Responsability, eco-social market economics and other economic-ethical issues.

Since then, the Oldenburg chapter of sneep (www.sneep.info/Oldenburg) have been involved in numerous projects to raise issues of economic ethics and sustainability among their fellow students and beyond the confines of the University: At the University for example, they have conducted a series of lectures and a nationwide meeting; outside the University, they carried out a research study project at companies in the region, and developed their own instruction unit which has been applied in several nearby schools.

Sneep not only brings together committed students from economics-related courses of studies (particularly from the Master’s Programme in Sustainability Economics and Management); rather, participation by students from the social sciences, philosophy, education and other disciplines makes sneep a truly interdisciplinary undertaking.

In the past, Centos members have often worked together with sneep, and have provided support for various sneep projects. In future, the exchange between Centos and sustainability-oriented student initiatives like sneep is to be expanded and intensified still further, with the goal, too, of introducing students to research more intensively.
