Dear HPC users,
it is time for another HPC newsletter which has information about (1) an upcoming HPC course and (2) some updates on the HPC usage:
- HPC Course: The next three-day course Introduction to HPC has been scheduled for September 23rd to 25thfrom ~10am to ~17pm. The course will be given in presence in the computer room W01 0-008 (with online streaming if needed) and the agenda for the full course is as follows:
Day 1 – Introduction to HPC (HPC Cluster, Job Scheduler, …)
Day 2 – Parallel Programming
Day 3 – Using Matlab on the HPC Cluster
Therefore, each day targets a different audience, and it is perfectly ok to only participate in the sessions that suit your particular needs. If interested, please sign up for the course in Stud.IP. More information about the course will also be available in the HPC wiki. - Updates on the HPC Usage: In the past couple of months, we have implemented some new features on ROSA/STORM/MOUSE that we would like to inform you about:
- The usage of the cluster can be checked for your group once again with the command report_group_usage(as before on CARL/EDDY). The tool now also reports GPU usage. The command report_group_usage -h will provide more information.
- The lastquota-command has been updated and will inform you about your usage of the different file systems.
- A new tool groupmembers can be used to list the members in your group. As a group leader you should check regularly and let us know if someone should be removed from the group.
- We have equipped on of the login nodes, hpcl004.hpc.uni-oldenburg.de, with a graphics card (Nvidia A2000) and enabled it for the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). You can access this node using the server address above to run graphical applications on the cluster. Please remember that the login nodes should not be used for intensive computations.
- Dates: Please take note following upcoming events
- Meeting of the HPC user representatives: March 22nd, at 10am (online)
- Introduction to HPC course: September 23 – 25 (W01 0-008, see above)
- GWDG Academy: various course on different topics
- Software News: We are installing new software on the clusters almost every day, but there is currently not enough time to document every installation. You can always use
$ module spider
to get an overview of the installed software packages. If you have software requests, you can always send them by email to hpcsupport@uol.de.
Best wishes and happy computing
Your HPC Support Team (hpcsupport@uol.de)
