Lecture: Dr Kathrin Akinwunmi

Title: "Algebraic thinking in arithmetic lessons at primary level"

Abstract : Algebraic thinking is a fundamental component of maths teaching, even if it is not explicitly mentioned in the national primary school standards. It is inextricably interwoven with the content area of patterns and structures, which is known to be an essential core of maths teaching and permeates all other content areas. Algebraic thinking means exploring patterns and understanding their underlying structures.

The lecture will begin with a characterisation of algebraic thinking and an associated differentiation of the terms patterns and structures. Subsequently, two studies will be presented in which generalisation processes of primary school children are considered from an epistemological perspective.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 at 17:15 in room W01 0-006

Interested parties are cordially invited.

24.05.2023 17:15 – Open End
